Frequently Asked Questions

How to interpret the scores, where the data comes from, and what the rankings can and cannot tell you.

What does a UXScore mean?

UXScore is a 0–100 score derived from nine user experience dimensions. It is intended for comparing sites in the Scanner rankings, not as a certification or a substitute for research with a site’s actual users.

How are websites scored?

Public pages are captured using a repeatable protocol, desktop and mobile, and scored across nine dimensions by a fast scanner model; no human raters are involved. The model was trained on and calibrated against a frozen study where a panel of AI judges scored 926 sites, so every Scanner score sits on that shared scale. The how-it-works page documents the protocol, dimensions, and score bands.

Why is my site not listed?

The rankings started with roughly 28,000 public websites drawn from popular-site lists, not every website. Any other site can be scanned on demand and joins the rankings as soon as its result is saved. Sites whose homepage answers with a block page are excluded rather than scored.

How often do rankings change?

The Scanner rankings update whenever a new scan is saved. Rescanning a site replaces its earlier ranking score with the latest one. The separate AI judge panel stays frozen because it is the training and calibration study.

Can I see a site’s scan history?

Nautilus keeps the latest saved scan and a bounded summary of the result immediately before it. A newer scan replaces that summary, so this comparison is not a complete timeline. The frozen AI judge panel is a separate calibration study.

Can I compare sites from different industries?

Yes, but the most useful comparison is usually against direct peers and the median for the same industry. The overall rankings provide broader context.

Who is behind Nautilus?
